PETG Extrusion Blow Molding Machine

High-clarity, impact-resistant PETG bottle production for cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food packaging. KSY machines are engineered around PETG's unique rheology — with precise ±1°C temperature control, a desiccant drying system down to -40°C dew point, and bottle output up to 1,200 pieces per hour.

PETG packaging context: PETG packaging demand is growing as premium brands shift from PET/PVC toward clear, impact-resistant and recyclable containers. Cosmetic packaging, pharmaceutical droppers and food bottles are the three fastest-growing application areas for extrusion-blow-molded PETG.

01 PETG vs Other Materials

Why PETG is specified for premium transparent packaging — and how it compares with PET, PVC and HDPE in the properties that matter for blow molded containers.

When PETG is the right choice: premium clarity needed, impact or drop strength matters, chemical resistance to cosmetic/chemical formulas, snap-fit or stress-sensitive necks, and food/pharma compliance required.

02 PETG: Key Properties

>90%
Transparency

Crystal-clear container walls with low haze and good surface gloss.

3–5x
Impact vs PET

Higher impact strength, especially at low temperature.

200–230°C
Processing range

Wider processing window than PET — easier to blow mold without degradation.

Excellent
Chemical resistance

Good resistance to oils, alcohol, mild acids and cleaning chemicals.

±1°C Precise Temperature Control

Multi-zone barrel and die heating prevent PETG thermal degradation, preserving clarity and mechanical strength.

Desiccant Drying to -40°C DP

PETG is hygroscopic. KSY integrates dryers to remove moisture before processing — essential for clear, strong bottles.

Screw Design for PETG

Gentle compression (2.0:1–2.5:1) and optimized L/D profile avoid shear heating and material degradation.

03 PETG Drying System — Critical Detail

No clarity without drying. This page shows the 4-stage drying sequence used on KSY PETG blow molding lines.

1

Material Loading & Pre-Drying

PETG begins at 0.2–0.3% moisture. Loading conditions are controlled before active drying.

2

Desiccant Drying

-40°C dew point, 65–70°C drying temperature, 3–4 hours minimum residence.

3

Hot-Air Conveying

Dehumidified hot air carries dried material to the machine hopper without re-absorbing moisture.

4

Machine Hopper

Final drying until material enters the extruder — keeping moisture below 50 ppm.

Drying parameterRecommendedWhy it matters
Dew point-40 °C or lowerPrevents hydrolysis, preserves clarity
Drying temp65–70 °CRemoves moisture without sticking
Drying time3–4 hours minEnsures full moisture removal
Final moisture<0.005% (50 ppm)Avoids haze, bubbles and strength loss
Air volume0.5–0.8 m³/h per kgEven drying across the full hopper

04 PETG Packaging Applications

Cosmetics & Personal Care

  • Perfume bottles with crystal clarity
  • Droppers & lotion bottles
  • Cream jars (solvent/alcohol resistance)

Pharmaceutical

  • Prescription pill bottles
  • Liquid medicine containers
  • Dropper bottles for precise dosing

Food & Beverage

  • Condiment and sauce bottles
  • Edible oil containers
  • Clear food packaging
Best use cases: PETG is chosen when a transparent, impact-resistant, FDA-compliant bottle must also survive drops, chemical contact and changes in temperature or humidity.
